Professional Engineering Development with PII

Introduction

Hi. Thank you for reading my first blog on this website. I have written a few posts in another blog but I will use this in English.

As an expatriate, I have limitations to increase my network with Indonesian professionals due to the distance. However, since the COVID-19 pandemic happened, the world and including Indonesia utilize teleconference for formal meetings or occasions. It means as a person who has constraints, I can create a relationship with more professionals, including with the one from Indonesia.

Professional Engineering Development with PII

Thanks to my cousin. Because of him, I encourage myself to pursue a professional engineering program after I spend almost 8 years of work as an engineer. I understand well that as an experienced professional, we need to be acknowledged. To do so, there is a path need to be taken. In the beginning, I joined Persatuan Insinyur Indonesia (PII) or The Institution of Engineers Indonesia. By joining this society, not only getting more knowledge but also getting known by others. It can be happened by attending webinars and joining the messaging platforms, such as Whatsapp group.

Based on Imam Prasetyo’s Blog, Persatuan Insinyur Indonesia (PII) history was begun on May 23, 1952. It was when Ir. H. Djoenda Kartawdijaja and Prof. Ir. R. Roosseno Soerjohadikoesoemo gathered with their Indonesian engineer colleagues. The meeting location was at Aula Barat, of Institute which is known as Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) now. At that time, Indonesia only had 75 engineers. Meanwhile, the responsibility to develop a newly-independent country was huge. Therefore, PII was established in order to strengthen cooperation among engineers to empower Indonesia’s development. In 1957, PII also became one of the driving motors of ITB establishment. In addition, PII is the second oldest professional organization after Ikatan Dokter Indonesia (ID) or Indonesia’s Medical Doctor Society.

Conclusion

Back to our condition in 2020, This COVID-19 is surely a pandemic which has a very bad impact on our world. However, we have to keep moving with a new normal. Remote communication has become common things which make conferences, seminars, lectures, or another meeting can be held with attendees from all around the world at the same time. Therefore, it depends on us how to face this COVID-19. Being positive and being adaptive are the keys to survival.
